The introduction of a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) or EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) takes place in the context of a company’s global productivity improvement approach.
This process, implemented as part of a company-wide information system, involves no less than five major improvement objectives:
- Equipment reliability and availability
- Maintenance teams’ intervention planning
- Information sharing and feedback
- Maintenance costs (labour, spare parts, etc.)
- Stock management
Management of:
- preventive and curative interventions work teams (scheduling, task assignment, etc.)
- purchasing
- stocks
- suppliers.
Integration
A CMMS must necessarily comprise a technical infrastructure capable of being totally integrated in the company’s global information system, in order to allow information sharing with the company’s other software modules (purchasing, Electronic Document Management etc.)
